Don’t you wish all your friends would choose to do a detox when you do? One of the reasons we wanted to have you all join us on the “Road to Glowing Health” is to create community of detoxers. We can support each other during the cleansing process and maybe even have a social life.!

One of the things I’ve noticed in all the cleanses I’ve done throughout the years is that it can be hard when all you friends are getting together having fun and your at home cooking brown rice and veggies (not that that isn’t delicious!)

All of us here at glow want to hang our with you, drink some tea, eat some food and enjoy. How does next Wednesday 7pm in Madison Valley sound? Hello all you fellow detoxers.  And a Hello to all you people thinking about detoxing but haven’t committed to the program, yet; we’ll call you Detox Voyeurs for now.

Last night, Thursday September 11th, we had a meeting to go over the detox plan and pick up the supplements which help to facilitate the detox process.  We also ate some very tasty soup and kale made by Lindsey.

I’ll be trying to coordinate schedules to have another detox meeting, perhaps next week, for those that weren’t able to make it last night.  Let me know via email if you would like to attend.

I’ll be doing the detox program, as well.  I’ll spend some time today looking through the recipes and going shopping for the foods I’ll need to get started this weekend.  I plan on starting tomorrow, Saturday.

I remember from past detoxes I’ve done that one of the major keys to success is planning and having food on hand.  There is nothing worse than getting home from a high-energy work day and not have anything available to eat.  The blood sugar drops, I can’t think as clearly, and I’m much more likely to grab something that is convenient, but is not congruent with the detox diet.  One practice that is helpful is to make twice the amount of food the recipe is for and refrigerate or freeze it for a quick snack or meal at a later time.  Also, making up healthy dips, such as the one included in the detox program I handed out, is a great quick snack with raw vegetables, such as carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, etc.  You can take some of the dip and vegetables to work with you, as well.

Another good dip is guacamole.  You’ll need 1 ripe avocado, the juice of 1/2 lemon, 1 tbsp cilantro finely chopped (optional), and a pinch of sea salt.  Peel avocado, place in a bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice.  Mash avocado with a fork– do not use a food processor.  Guacamole should be slightly lumpy.  Stir in the cilantro.  Should be eaten soon or it will turn brown.  Serve with vegetable sticks.

Still one more easy snack to have on hand is nuts.  Nuts are an extremely nutritious food if properly prepared.  If not properly prepared, enzyme inhibitors within the nuts prevent their proper digestion and nutrient extraction.  The raw nuts should be soaked overnight in salt water and then dried in a warm oven or in a dehydrator.  During the detox diet, a snack of nuts would be one handful, maybe two if you need the extra calories.
